Where do your donations go? If you should decide to donate to the GALs organization, there are a few things you should know:
- We are an all volunteer organization.
- Every dollar donated is used for the betterment of the greyhounds in our care.
- We choose to keep the adoption fee low to make the dogs affordable, however, it only covers a portion of the total expenses incurred bringing an ex-racer to the area. This is why we raise funds.
In addition, occasionally we have unexpected expenses. Recently one of our foster dogs, Joe’s Procedure, was cared for an extended period of time. JoePro was a unique greyhound and could be described as an ‘independent thinker”. Although he attracted countless inquiries, it took us some extra time to find just the right situation for him. It was more important for JoePro that we be certain and confident in his placement. Due to his extended stay, his daily care was an unexpected expense outside of our projected budget.
In another case, Kissy (former brood mom), incurred an injury while in foster care and required some immediate surgery, which cost nearly $700. Although we do our best to prevent accidents, they can happen. The GAL contingency fund needs to be replenished for the next emergency.
Our role as an adoption organization is to always be prepared to help ex-racers. Helping those already in foster care and those waiting for their opportunity at retirement. We rely on the support of generous people to help us help greyhounds.
